After the release of 31213 Mona Lisa early this month, in 2025 Leonardo da Vinci will be getting another one of his creations in brick-built LEGO form. In particular, it'll be a brand new LEGO Icons set of 10363 Da Vinci's Flying Machine. The 18+ model will retail for $59.99 / €59.99 / £54.99 with a total of 493 pieces once it releases on the 1st of January 2025 alongside plenty more LEGO Icons sets.
Da Vinci was not only a painter, but also a draughtsman, engineer, scientist, theorist, sculptor, and architect. The Italian was a man of many talents and around 1485 he took on the challenge of creating his own Flying Machine. Being inspired by the fight of birds, Da Vinci created many designs for his best machine yet but never resulted in a fully functional model, mainly because it relied on human muscle power to move the wings and generate enough lift.
Hundreds of years later and 10363 Da Vinci's Flying Machine will replicate Da Vinci's design for a flying machine in brick-built LEGO form. The 18+ model includes an expertly built-mechanism that enables the wings to move. The wings will most likely be white and could be either a specialised fabric piece or brick-built. Either way, they'll be attached to the thin wooden structure of the flying machine.
All of this will then be placed on an 18+ black stand to easily display the Flying Machine. A single Minifigure can also be placed in front of the black stand of an exclusive version of Da Vinci himself. He'll likely also include a simple accessory but we'd love a printed Minifigure version of Mona Lisa. An information plaque may also be included, similar to some of the most iconic vehicles and vessels seen throughout the LEGO Icons theme.
