After a leak just last week, LEGO has officially presented another D2C for 2024 as we slowly approach the release of the last few sets of an extremely exciting and successful year for the Danish toy makers. In particular, we have official pictures of the ninth and final LEGO Ideas model of 2024: 21353 The Botanical Garden. The November 2024 set will retail for $329.99 / €329.99 / £289.99 with a total of 3,792 pieces included.
It's been less than a year since the Botanical Garden and Twilight: Cullen House were confirmed to be coming as official LEGO sets but the LEGO designers have been extremely busy preparing the brick-built Botanical Garden for a 4th of November 2024 release. Once it releases it'll become the largest LEGO Ideas set of 2024 in terms of piece count, beating Aprils 21348 - Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon's Tale.
As the name suggests, 21353 is a beautiful recreation of a 19th century Botanical Garden structure in LEGO form, similar to the recent LEGO Friends Botanical Garden set of 41757 Botanical Garden but in a much bigger scale. In fact, 18+ indoor garden stretches across a total of two regular 32×32-stud LEGO baseplates measuring over 22 cm (8.5 inches) high, 51 cm (20 inches) wide and 25 cm (10 inches) deep.
The brick-built Botanical Garden building is a fully glazed greenhouse with a neoclassical entrance facade that welcomes visitors inside. There you can find various botanical species in LEGO form including a banana tree, a palm and a Beaucarnea recurvata in the central area, succulents plants in the left apse, various flowers in the right apse, Anthurium, Strelitzia, Bamboo plants, Stromanthe thalia, Caladium bicolor, Begonia Maculata, Codiaeum variegatum e and many more along the garden's perimeter.
Even with this wide range of Minifigure scale botanical plants, the interior is very large with fully accessible open space expanding across these two baseplates. The large roof and the two small roofs on the left and right of the brick-built Botanical Garden can be removed individually to better explore the interior. In addition to this, individual walls can also be removed to provide better access to the different plant-filled rooms.
Compared to the original submission by Goannas89, LEGO's official design seems to be slightly shorter, no longer stretching across two floors, but much wider. However, this still allows for a skylight roof and large open glass windows on the first floor which can all be easily removed, as already mentioned, for full playability. There is also a small balcony with spiral stairs for the Minifigures to look at the tallest plants in the garden.
The original submission by Goannas89 also included over 3,000 pieces, eight Minifigures, plenty of accessories and a dog. LEGO has not only increased the piece count but also increased the number of Minifigures. A total of 12 Minifigures are included in 21353 The Botanical Garden: four members of staff (the manager, two gardeners and a barista), various visitors both young and old along with a dog, a squirrel, a bunny, a beetle and 4 moulded birds.
