LEGO and Sonic will finally become a full theme this year after a LEGO Ideas set and a whole LEGO Dimensions level based on the franchise. Promobricks.de reported about a month ago that the rumoured LEGO 'Lemon' Gaming theme would be based on everyone's favourite hedgehog with a total of five sets for the theme. These range from the set number 76990 to 76994 with a rumoured release date of August 2023.
Unlike the LEGO Super Mario theme, all of these sets will be Minifigure scale allowing them to be combined with last year's LEGO Sonic set. This was the LEGO Ideas set of 21331 Sonic the Hedgehog - Green Hill Zone which included iconic loops and jumps, many rings and a couple of enemies like Dr Eggman.
Each of the new sets will include a launcher build allowing Sonic or other Minifigures to get up to speed in a clear LEGO ball that'll be included. This can be fired around the course making it very playable rather than the Ideas set which was more of a display model. There's also the possibility some of the bigger sets may include other interesting features as there is a total of at least five releasing in 2023 for the theme.
But it turns out that there not the only LEGO Sonic sets coming in 2023. This is because Promobricks.de are reporting that LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog Brickheadz will most likely appear this year too. These will most likely be based on iconic characters like Sonic, Tails, Dr Eggman and Shadow making them similar to the recent LEGO Lord of the Rings sets.
No release date, set numbers or anything else about the LEGO Brickheadz are confirmed with it being stated that this is only a small rumour. But as we head closer to the Summer of 2023 more and more LEGO Brickheadz sets should be rumoured for 2023 and a brand new set number may appear for Sonic and his friends.
